Marquette Neighborhood Association President and District 6 alder candidate Marsha Rummel turned in her final candidacy paperwork today at city hall, and said she looks forward to the next 90 days leading up to the April 3 general election. "We're going to have a positive, spirited give-and-take with east side voters," she said.

"It's going to be fun," Rummel said. "We have this 90-day window, from now until April 3, where people will be focused on what concerns them about our neighborhood, local schools and the city as a whole. When I go door-to-door or talk to people on the street, I get to hear those concerns and engage people, in a positive discussion of what we as a city should be doing."

"The east side has a long, proud history of civic involvement," Rummel said. "Alder District 6 consistently has one of the highest voter turnouts of any area of the city. People here are very knowledgeable, very involved, and not shy about sharing their opinions. I fully expect a spirited, educated discussion of city issues."

Issues that Rummel has heard about frequently from District 6 residents and which she plans to emphasize in her campaign include the need for affordable housing, access to affordable transportation options, sustainable economic development, and the quality of Madison's urban ecosystem, including its water.

Alder District 6 stretches from the State Capitol out to Olbrich Gardens, from East Washington Avenue to Lake Monona.

Longtime District 6 Ald. Judy Olson is not running for re-election.
